Transformations in clean energy

The China Edition
China leads the world in solar panel production, wind turbine production, installed wind power capacity, and installed solar capacity. At the same time it’s also the largest emitter of carbon dioxide, largest consumer of coal, and largest energy consumer, period. More dramatically than any other country, they are in the midst of a profound transformation to a new paradigm.
China’s energy transition has been jolted by an entrenched and politically powerful coal industry and overcapacity in both coal and and clean energy, but their most recent five year plan spells out a continued emphasis on clean energy, in stark contrast to what we’ve seen so far from the Trump administration. The idea that such a massive shift could be anything other than two-forward, one-back is unrealistic; reports of a transition being dead are are greatly exaggerated. The country is leading the worldwide shift to a clean energy economy; in that sense, every edition is the China edition.
