March 29, 2021: Bill passes TN House and Senate unanimously.
The Tennessee Professional Firefighters, along with help from IAFF Locals across the state were successful in getting our legislation passed that adds a presumption for infectious diseases for which a pandemic has been declared by the World Health Organization or the federal centers for disease control and prevention, and for which the governor has declared a state of emergency.
An emergency rescue worker employed after July 1, 2015, must undergo a pre-employment physical and test negative for the infectious disease, in order to receive the benefit of the presumption. Additionally, if there is a vaccine for the infectious disease and an emergency rescue worker refuses the vaccine without medical justification from a physician, the worker loses the benefit of the presumption.
More information on this very important legislation will be shared as soon as it is available.
