I got nothing.

I got nothing.
By Jewel Wicker • Issue #8 • View online

Struggling to find the words as a reporter is a strange feeling. There’s a guilt that comes with not being able to type up an essay that encapsulates the collective grief of this year. But, the truth is…I got nothing. And, for now, that has to be OK.

It’s been hard to create when nothing matters but everything matters.
Jazmine Sullivan - Lost One
I’ve been listening to The Vocal Bible (aka Brandy) and all of the singer’s who she’s inspired this week. Jazmine Sullivan’s melismas remain one of my favorite sounds.

Racket (iHeartRadio)
The super talented Christina Lee hosts this podcast about the Gold Club. Even Atlanta enthusiasts will learn something new from this project.
Lovecraft Country (HBO)
This is essential viewing and I have a feeling it’ll be a strong contender during awards season, but it probably shouldn’t be viewed at night if you’re prone to nightmares.

After reading “Freshwater,” I’ll read pretty much anything Akwaeke Emezi writes. I need someone else to read her latest book, though, because I mostly liked it but I HAVE QUESTIONS.
How Chadwick Boseman Embodies Black Male Dignity by Reggie Ugwu for The New York Times
I’ve struggled with the news of Chadwick’s death like most people. It’s helped to return to this beautiful profile from last year.
There’s so much great writing about the current racial uprising and the history of policing in this issue. I can’t wait to buy a physical copy.
This is a great example of how to write a profile without access to primary sources.
