This is The Block. It’s boring to talk about price all the time. I only briefly checked on coinmarketcap.com to see what the hubbub was about last Friday when XRP jumped 68% in value (and overtook Ethereum as #2 behind Bitcoin) but other than that, I’ve kept my head down and mostly concentrated on looking at fundamental asset value outside of the U.S. dollar.
Which is what you should do too.
But what’s really kind of interesting is that, lately, Bitcoin trading (and crypto trading in general) has gotten, well, boring. This has potentially been the underlying “smoothing” factor for market volatility.
This is how it should be. Trading crypto ought not to be any more or less fascinating or explosively, heart-poundingly fraught with excitement and huge swings of risk and reward than any other market. And the more mature the market gets, the smoother the functioning of its trading environment (made up of all the centralized and decentralized exchanges), ought to make it more, not less attractive as an asset class.
Which means, as we begin Q4, institutional money will flow back in (indeed, it’s already begun, though not necessarily in highly visible ways). Individual investors will also be less spooked.
And it’s quite possible we’ll see another mini-bull run; nothing like 2017’s, but certainly enough green to make people feel that warm, cozy feeling just as winter begins to set in.
We’ll see. For now, follow the markets, keep your eyes and ears open, and watch for the signs.
