Colored Pencils Art
Well, I have definitely gotten DEEP into the colored pencils these days. Thanks must go to my wonderful colored pencil class and LBCC and fellow artists who have made exploring this medium fun and enchanting. Since I first picked up colored pencils over 2 years ago, I’ve sought out information, learned, practiced, felt a bit queasy, and tried some more. These days, I’m rather chuffed with my colored pencil skill, and I’m excited to share tips with other artists!

Community Connections
There’s some local goings-on if you’re in the Mid-Valley in Oregon, and of course many creative community connections that you can join in virutally. Check out what’s coming up in the next few weeks:
Corvallis Multicultural Literacy Center Drive Thru Block Party May 15, 3:00 - 5:00 pm (in-person, socially-distanced outdoors) - CMLC is a local nonprofit organization that supports cross-cultural learning and community-building programs. Check out more of their classes, events, and work here.
The Arts Center’s Arts Alive 2021, August 13 and 14 (online) - This community art event brings local artists together to showcase their work, engage with other makers, and share passions. Check out the lineup of artists who will create videos, classes, and demonstrations in this year’s event!
Darkness 2 Light Child Abuse Prevention Trainings from ABC House, various dates and times - I’ve been a child abuse prevention traininer for around 6 years, and this work continues to be vitally important for communities and keeping children safe. Trainings are currently online and mostly free (some materials shipping costs may be applied). If you’re interested in a training, let me know or reach out to a local child advocacy group like ABC House in Albany.
Theatre of the Oppressed NYC, various events, dates and times - I got connected to TONYC this spring when I took their Building Forum Scenes Online workshop. It was an incredible experience and totally re-ignited my passion for Theatre of the Oppressed and creating dialog around equity through the arts. Check them out, participate in a forum, volunteer and support them!

Readings & Learnings
In 2021, I made a commitment to read more. To keep me on track, I’ve been trying to read on average 3 books a month. I’m cataloging some of the lessons I’m learning from the books I read over at the Inklings Illustrated Blog, plus check out my shop on to see my absolute FAVORITE books of all time, including graphic novels, fantasy, artist biographies, liberation literature, and current research on creativity.
This month’s favorite quote:
Fire and fear, good servants, bad lords.
– Ursula K Le Guin in The Left Hand of Darkness
New skill: Embroidery
It’s so fun to learn a new way to creatively express myself. Embroidery is something I’ve long admired and never tried, until this past month when I picked up a sampler pattern from Etsy and dove into my collection of embroidery thread. I’ve learned A LOT from trying out this pattern and I’m super excited to learn more and make more!
