Weekly digest of things I find interesting, useful, funny, thought provoking or absurd... mixed with some wise ass short observations of my own.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
~Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Golf and Life
I believe that most people are self-conscious about their physical appearance because they have zero control over the external judgments made by others. If you are in the world - you are being judged - like it or not. In contrast, your internal personality is something you can hide or parse out to others as you see fit. If you’re silent and your body language is quiet there is nothing to judge - it can only be imagined in the mind of someone else. You can choose whether or not to open your mouth. You are in control.
If you’ve never played golf this next thought might not make sense to you but I would submit that there is no better way to get to know someone than to spend 4 hours with them on a golf course. There is no way to hide from yourself when you play golf. You can learn everything you need to know about someone by how they carry themselves through a round of golf. Are they honest or a cheat? How do they handle adversity? How do they handle things they cannot control? Are they selfish and egotistical or courteous and thoughtful? Are they humble? How do they treat others? All of this and much more is revealed after 70-120 swings of a golf club.
How will you spend your days?
Here is an interesting look at how many days an adult spends doing certain things in their lifetime. I was not asked, but if I were there would have to be a few days in there for eating Extreme Moose Tracks ice cream.
National Geo Photo Contest
Every year The Atlantic publishes a bunch of photos from the National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year contest. There are always some amazing and interesting shots. Here is the 2017 version:
Several years ago I “appropriated” one of these images and had it turned into the background image on my debit card.  Here is the original photo:

With summer upon us all of the TV shows are winding down to take a summer break. If you’re worried about whether or not your favorite shows are coming back or have been canceled here is a nice concise list.
Spoiler Alerts: The Simpsons will be around for its 30th season (a new record).  If you are the last person watching Son of Zorn it will no longer be around for you to further cement your status as a world class loser.
