RUF at Boise State - The First Summer

Welcome to the The Denton Dispatch - our RUF at Boise State newsletter. If you’ve been supporting us for a while, we are so grateful that you continue to support and love us! In each news letter we want to encourage you, update you and give you ways to pray. We hope that you enjoy the links to music, recipes, resources, etc. We love hearing from you - so feel free to let us know how we can pray for you!

When we told people that we were following God’s call and moving to Boise, ID many people had to get a map out to see just where it is! Don’t worry, we did too :-) - We are so happy to say that it has been a wonderful transition to this great city. Certainly we find ourselves missing relationships from back in North Carolina, but we are so incredibly thankful for a number of things. We are a part of a new church plant in downtown called Boise Presbyterian. We have been meeting every other Sunday evening to learn together and pray together for our upcoming launch on August 18th. We have met so many kind people who are also excited to be a part! The city itself is just fantastic! I (Jay) am able to ride my bike to campus and to downtown, Bet loves to run the trails in the Boise Hills, and the kids have LOVED playing outside WITH HARDLY ANY HUMIDITY! We are also grateful for our RUF staff here who have been amazing during this transition. We meet most Mondays at 9am and it has been so wonderful to feel like we are already working together as a team.

This Summer we are getting to know the students who are in town. We have already had them over a couple of times to our home - most recently for a cookout. We are thankful for their desire for community, for their interest in the gospel, and their welcoming spirit to us and to new students. It gives us such great hope as we think about the coming school year. Last week was RUF staff training in Dallas, TX. Pray for our whole staff as we look toward this Fall semester - especially pray for freshmen outreach! Also note the last picture in this section - Sam Kennedy is the new RUF Campus Minister at UNCW - where we came from - and it looks like he fits the profile.

Jay: Preaching and Teaching. In June I preached at Cloverdale URC here in Boise and Portland at Hope PCA. Last week in Dallas I taught a seminar to interns about One to One Ministry, and this weekend I preach at Faith PCA in Tacoma, WA for their evening service. Pray for energy, faithfulness to God’s word, and for my travel - pray for God to use his word in the hearts of everyone I have the opportunity to minister to. Also pray for Bet and the girls when I am gone.

Bet: Bet is currently researching school options here in Boise for the girls. Because we weren’t here early enough in the year, Laine and Remy are currently placed in different schools. Would you pray for wisdom and help as Bet (and I) research, pray, and seek wisdom about what would be best for our girls during this first year in Boise?

The Girls (Laine, Remy, and Breck): Pray for the connection of the head and heart as they learn to live in the reality of the gospel. Pray that the love of Christ will give them confidence to care for others and courage as they makes new friends here in Boise.
