First Year at BSU...Starting Year 6 in RUF!

We have been in Boise just over a year! As I sit at my desk this morning I’m thinking about both the past and the future. I’m dreaming about how the gospel will enter into the lives of students this fall when school starts back - students that we don’t even know yet! There have been times of wondering things like, “Where will we meet?” or “Can I even go to campus?” or “Will our small groups be in a big room with people wearing masks?” There have been discussions about how we will help our students to grow in a rich Christian worldview of human dignity that will inform the rest of their lives. These are important questions, but today, I’m doing some gospel-saturated daydreaming. I’m dreaming because in the last ten years of ministry God has proven himself over and over and over again. I’m dreaming because as I see the stories of the past in my mind’s eye, he has provided everything that we need. He has brought people to himself. He has raised up leaders. He has softened the hearts of those that are prideful and given confidence to those who are hurting. I’m dreaming because Christ my Lord has not left me for one second. In plenty and in want (Philippians 4), his presence has remained. He has not left or forsaken me (Joshua 1). I’m dreaming because I trust that he will work through the sufferings that will come (Romans 5), and he will work through the victories that we are graciously able to see.
I’m also thinking of your faces. Last night I looked at a long list people who have financially given and are currently giving to our ministry. When I tell you that it’s overwhelming, that is just the start of it. Over the last 11+ years there has been a wave of people lifting us up in prayer and in support. With each step I have wondered, “How will we be able to do this?” Oh me of little faith! God has continually answered…and he has answered in large part by YOUR partnership.
From the conferences of over 1000 to the cup of coffee I had yesterday with one student, I have never believed more that the kingdom of Jesus is on the move. Because of your partnership, we get a front row seat to the workings of God as we give our lives for his sake.
Over the next few months I am going to be posting some video interviews with past students about how God has worked and is working in their lives. I’ll send them to this list first, so make sure to stay tuned and rejoice with me that Jesus Christ is alive and at work!
Some ways to pray:
  1. Pray for our summer ministry. We are teaching through the book of Ruth (virtual meetings still!). We are also meeting with students here in Boise (socially distanced!).
  2. Pray for fundraising. We have been so thankful for how God has provided the first half of this year. From our faithful monthly donors, to checks that we didn’t even remotely see coming, to churches that have surprised us with investments, to new donors that have signed on, we are right at our budget for the year. For the long haul, we need to grow our donor base. Would you pray that the Lord would continue to provide partners?
  3. Pray for the fall semester. Once we better understand the policies and procedures for Boise State this fall, we will certainly be sharing the details and particular ways to pray!
  4. Pray for my summer vacation. I keep a pretty consistent schedule throughout the year and I am blessed to have 2 weeks of vacation in the summer. Pray for refreshment, for rest, for good family time. Pray that we would be present with each other and that it would be a memorable time for our girls!
