#336 - Oakland satire, Elon's old divorce, and AI Memes

Corey's Weekly Review

May 5 · Issue #336 · View online

The best of the tech industry, life optimization, and just plain fun.

Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother You was the standout media from this week - I can’t believe I missed this 2018 movie satirizing the Bay Area and capitalism in general that’s rated 93% on RT and directed by an Oakland activist.
Absolutely hilarious, absolutely insightful, makes you both laugh and think. Must watch! Know any other good - ‘so true it hurts’ movies like this?
I also finished Octavia Butler’s Earthseed series, which predicted both Twitter and Trump though written in 1993 about a post-apocalyptic America that reverts to fundamentalist ideals to ‘help America to be great again’.
A worthwhile read, if not especially innovative in the genre. Reads like Cormac McCarthy’s The Road with an empathetic woman as the protagonist.
IRL my friends are all making cool online videochat apps during quarantine - Nexus Events does speed 5 min opt in networking, and Bobble Heads lets you move around your head to hear people better and share screens.
