The PM and his love for nature!
While India’s Prime Minister went on a long walk in a premier tiger sanctuary, his government was taking its own long walk on the environment. What should a politician do, I wonder? Focus on the immediate and be around to do something substantial or think of the future at risk of his own position. It is for each politician to figure for himself, I guess. A good environment is the outcome of human actions and thought, and if the masses have other concerns, so will the politicians.
I increasingly believe that there is little that can be done on climate change and all that we as individuals should be doing is preparing for what lies ahead. However, even preparation in terms of access to basic necessities when weather patterns destabilise and the elements become more toxic requires the government to play an active role. Perhaps that’s what we should be working towards. Happy Independence Day!
