Towards a Sustainable & Inclusive World

Though northern Europeans and a few others are trying hard to make climate change a global issue, few governments are biting. More & more international agreements are being thought of, greater moral pressure is being imposed, but barring a few countries coal will continue to be the key energy producer and petroleum will power much of transport for another two decades. Very few countries are thinking of imposing carbon taxes where high emission energy sources are taxed much more, just as tobacco and alcohol are across most of the world.
Hence climate change will occur and some countries such as India will be more affected more than others. Fear of climate change is clearly not working as a motivator of individual or collective change in the global community of nations. Perhaps it is time we shifted to a strategy of rewarding those countries who are most proactive.
