Symmetry in the content in this weeks post. There are eleven items and also eleven new music pointers. As usual, get me on Twitter with comments or questions.

Technology
Cloud Computing: Special Report on The Cloud - Financial Times - Link
There is a good selection of articles on the FT site on the topic of Cloud Computing.
Accessibility: Apple previews powerful software updates designed for people with disabilities - Apple - Link
Excellent updates for people who need them. Check out the video about using hand gestures to control an Apple Watch. Our sci-fi future inches closer!

Supercomputing: Frontier Supercomputer to Get World’s Fastest Storage: 75 TB/s, 15 Billion IOPS, 700 PetaBytes - Tom’s Hardware - Link
All the chatter these days about the forefront of computing usually happens around the Cloud and Quantum Computing. Let’s not forget that supercomputers are still a thing. This new one that is being built is a beast.
Science
Research: How COVID broke the evidence pipeline - Nature - Link
We’ve seen plenty of unjustified claims about how to treat COVID-19 infection over the last 15 months, with nothing that could be described as evidence to back the claims. This Nature long read is good on how the usual procedures for gathering evidence and testing treatments have been stress tested recently.
Geology: Mexico City Could Sink Up to 65 Feet - Wired - Link
Mexico city is sinking!
Geology: Iceland volcano drone footage, watch into lava pool - Green Iceland Vid - Link
The Icelandic volcano that erupted in March is still going. It’s down to a single crater now, but it’s not the original fissure. Every five minutes or so, it bursts into action and spews out geysers of molten rock, and also a large volume of lava flows out onto the surrounding landscape. This 12-minute video shot from drones at the site is fabulous.

Culture
Future of Work: The hybrid work paradox - Satya Nadella - Link
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella writes on LinkedIn about how Microsoft is preparing for the post-pandemic workplace, and how other organisations can also prepare. Most office-based workers want to embrace a hybrid working future, with time split across offices, shared workspaces, and home working.
Interview: Take it easy, nothing matters in the end’: William Shatner at 90, on love, loss and Leonard Nimoy - William Shatner - The Guardian - Link
Bill Shatner is 90!. He’s also bloody marvellous!
Progressive Society: LGBT+ youths twice as likely to contemplate suicide, survey finds - The Guardian - Link
There is still a constant stream of misinformed and evil bile from prominent journalists and public figures against Trans people in particular, and LGBT people in general. This article shows some of the consequences. Why can’t we just let people live the lives that make them happy and mind our own business?
Musicians: ‘Era of being a UK-based concert artist is pretty much over’ – musicians share their Brexit realities - Classic FM - Link
The UK government was offered a mutual exception for musicians in the Brexit deal negotiations. They declined to stop EU-based musicians from having the right to come to the UK freely. Then lied about it, as is their way of dealing with everything.
