HugoFloss Weekend Newsletter - Issue #1

Team Hugo Floss
Team Hugo Floss
Just in time to plan for the usual Sunday recording session for the weekly episode, where we can plant some seeds for chat, mention any guests or maybe a drop-in chat, live stream chat, or whatever else comes up!

The Two Newsletter Approach
Email, podcasting, maybe even talking to people in person… everything old is new again! The idea is, publish a newsletter that links to the current episode of the HugoFloss podcast, with more information, more links, more easily readable stuff sent to your inbox AND published as a normal every day web page that you can read and share and whatnot. That would be is the Show Notes Newsletter on Substack, swing over that way and subscribe!
Then, before the next episode, we can publish this weekend newsletter with some ideas about upcoming topics, any guest mentions, relevant links, and perhaps most interesting, a potential live stream, listener chat, drop-in audio… all sorts of possibilities.
Is there interest in live participation? That’s what we need to know, and so as people subscribe to this newsletter we can let everybody know when the next episode is going live to record and how to get in there to chat about the topics of the day. We’re probably fascinating on our own, just imagine the possibilities when the discussion opens up!
All About the Name
We mentioned this in the first and maybe some early episodes, but this question might come up… why is this show called Hugo Floss?
Well, there’s a clothing brand with some dubious historical associations, but which is known around the world, and so there’s that similarity to the ear.
More interesting, though, is a great YouTube channel that has been around for a very long time, filled from start to finish with interesting stuff, and it’s one of several shows that the two brothers, Hank & John, produce. Here’s a throwback to give you some idea:
50 Common Misconceptions - mental_floss on YouTube (Ep.1)
50 Common Misconceptions - mental_floss on YouTube (Ep.1)
So the Hugo Floss podcast should ideally be interesting discussion about interesting things with interesting people… that includes guests like you. Hank & John have been at this for about a decade across their various channels and shows and whatnot, we’re still early
Drop-in Audio?
You may have heard that Clubhouse invented podcasting, or something silly along those lines. Well, if you’ve ever called in to a traditional (or old-school) radio show, you’re somewhat familiar with the notion of drop-in audio, where you can join in the discussion right next to the hosts and guests. It’s a cool idea, though it could get a little crazy, so there are similar hurdles to get over to prevent a free-for-all, and it turns out everybody is doing drop-in audio nowadays. Who needs Clubhouse?
We set up a channel on Telegram and if there’s interest, we can produce some drop-in episodes (or segments, or whatever works!), and at the same time there is a chat room there that could go along with the live stream, and then we publish all of it come Monday.
Thoughts? Ideas?
Telegram is interesting because it’s Free, it Works, and it works on all platforms (well, most). You can at least participate in chat via the web client, as it stands, and it’s under active development. And it’s free…
This is where you can go to find out more, find a download for your device or platform, and get in on our upcoming live episode productions!
If you do have a desire to join in, and you grab the Telegram application for your platform (Android, iPhone, Mac, Linux, Windows, at least), we’ll put together a live episode and get the word out in the Hugo Floss Weekend Newsletter right here. Audio is easier than video, you don’t have to get dressed or anything!

Thanks for your Support!
The best way to help use out is to share the Anchor link for the podcast feed itself, though now you can also share either of our newsletters with your friends and colleagues. The more people we have participating, the more interesting our drop-in episodes can become!
Don’t forget, guests are welcome as well for more traditional episodes. If you have something cool to talk about, bring it on!
