Hermetic Library Newsletter - Issue #62 (blissfully not having to listen to the constant buzz and have to smell the fumes of lawnmowers)

This week, in between freezing days, there was a day warm enough for my first foray back into the yard, here at Hermetic Library World HQ, where I’ve started to set up new beds for low-maintenance milpa mix planting. It’s an experiment, so we’ll see how it goes! Hopefully I’ll also see more of the wildflowers I’ve keep trying to get going. After a few cold and rainy days, today should be good enough to get out and do a bit more prep, and maybe get the milpa mix seeds in the ground. But, either way, I was able to briefly have my windows open for a little while this week whilst blissfully not having to listen to the constant buzz and have to smell the fumes of lawnmowers everywhere across the neighborhood yet!
Also this week there’s newsletter first, merch, almanac, propaganda, memes, updates, quotes, reviews, and more!
And, as always, I worked on various other things on website, blog, and more … Enjoy!

Newsletter first
I mentioned last week that I’d left Tumblr again, and lately I’ve also been pulling back a lot from other social media. Meta’s Facebook and Instagram are ethically and philosophically awful, but I see the most social media referral traffic from Facebook and the most interaction with my posts on Instagram, so it’s a bit hard to just go cold turkey. Historically, I’ve actually enjoyed Twitter, and find that I most consistently engaged there, but I’ve been finding less and less to enjoy about it, and have been increasingly avoiding it altogether of late.
Ultimately, I’ve talked many times about how horrible social media has been for reaching people, and my hope that this newsletter would become a way for people that actually want to see things I’m posting and get updates about what’s new at the library to actually see and get those. It’s not there yet, I don’t think, but it’s been a start and I’ve been finding that I can actually do these weekly for those that want them. Honestly, I’m not sure why people would follow on social media or subscribe to this newsletter if they don’t want to see or get my updates about the library. I mean, strange things do happen, but it does seem odd to me. I would presume otherwise. But, I could, of course, be wrong (again).
I’m thinking that over the course of this coming year I’m probably going to be slowly moving more and more toward this newsletter as the first place I post stuff, instead of as a kind of record of what I’ve been posting for the past week. I’m not sure how that will go, but it’s my general plan. Realistically, it’ll always, probably, have to be a hybrid, because some things, like what I’ve updated on the site, will by necessity be summaries instead of forward looking. But, probably more and more looking forward in future, is what I’m saying.
One example of this switch from being a summary toward forward looking is the almanac section below, which I’m trying out for the first time this week. Let me know what you think of that!
Eventually, maybe by the end of the year, I might even consider posting less to social media. Currently, I post multiple times a day, from a queue that I fill up with blog posts and so on. Maybe, ultimately, I’ll end up only posting announcements and weekly links to this newsletter?
By the by, did you know this list has an RSS feed? I just discovered it because I tried it out to see if it existed, and it does! It’s only the preambles of these newsletters, but it’s another way to keep track of them, if you want to do so in an RSS reader. Anyhow, it was a surprise because I’m not sure there’s any mention of there being an RSS feed anywhere, and I only found it because I was taking a stab in the dark to try and stick it. (Most people don’t, I think, use RSS readers anymore, so if that’s all Greek to you, never mind!)
I’ve added new stuff with the logo for RADIO @ HRMTC, Hermetic Library’s listener supported Internet radio stations, over on the Public Merch Shop!
I also did some stuff over on the GOODS MERCH @ HRTMC landing page, where I’ve added new quicklinks to the major categories of merch at the public shop, like Hadit (Masculine), Nuit (Feminine), Ra-Hoor-Khuit (Child), Profess House (Home), Treasurehouse of Images (Accessories), and Collections (Curated).
I also added a link to RADIO @ HRMTC merch over on the RADIO @ HRMTC landing pages.
