Hermetic Library Newsletter - Issue #53 (The Wordle of the law is θέλημα.)
By John Bell the Librarian • Issue #114 • View online
Last issue of January, which means this is also the last issue of the 1st full year of newsletters! Next issue will be the first of the 2nd year, but, before I get ahead of myself, I’ll probably have something of a reflection on that next week.
Also, next week is ☉ in 15° ♒ (Sol in 15° Aquarius), cross-quarter day often called Imbolc!
This week I’ve got the Wordle of the law, existential dread, Euphoria, Lestat, French wine, manifesto, doodles, and fraternity. Along with this week’s #OccultLoveFest, propaganda, memes, updates, quotes, reviews, and more!
And, as always, I worked on various other things on website, blog, and more … Enjoy!

Don't teach my kids to think. I don't want my kids to think!
Don't teach my kids to think. I don't want my kids to think!
(Actual parent in a mob at a School Board mtg, in the 80s, protesting a curriculum called “Thinking Skills” because their pastor mobilized them against it claiming a concentration exercise used in it was teaching their kids “Transcendental Meditation”.)
Existential dread
Damien P. Williams, MA, MSc, ABD, Patternist
You ever think about those stories where people have their minds and personalities overtaken by aliens or whatever, but the original people are still aware inside there?

Anyway, here's this video: https://t.co/fQAQyqD2ZH
Starting around 03:42 (tw:NFTs, cw:existential dread)
It’s like … a sketch from a bad Kentucky Fried Movie remake. Or, something from SNL that was supposed to be funny, but wasn’t.
I expected Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker to yell “and, cut!” then pop out on camera at the end.
Euphoria
Lestat
Courtney Weber
Imagine this:
A remake of "Interview with the Vampire."

Who plays Lestat?
Timothée Chalamet. And Hunter Schafer as Louis.
But, it’s filmed twice. And in the other performance they swap roles.
(Because Pitt and Cruise were in the wrong roles too. Seriously, Cruise was never a good Lestat and is totally a Louis.)
Well, we’ll get to see what happens with Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson some time later this year with AMC’s try, maybe? I’m amused by how IMDB says “plot under wraps”, as if.
Still holding out for a production of The Mummy, or Ramses the Damned, tbh. Very much more solar than those vampires. Now, there’s a plot they could say is under wraps.

French wine
I hear Bloviate Digression was caught in a photo with wine at No 10’s not-party party. Bet it was French wine, too, in spite of Brexit. Strong US politicians smoking Cuban cigars energy.
While I admit I didn't actually read it, it still supports my argument.

Manifesto
The Coil Manifesto
The Coil Manifesto
Apropos of nothing, was remembering this recently.
“a key for which the hole does not exist. is non-existant. in silence and secrecy. a spell. a spiral. a serpent etched around the female cycle. a whirlwind. a double helix.”
“kabbalah and chaos. thanatos and thelema. archangels and antichrists. open and close. truth and deliberation. traps and disorientation.”
“we are janus-headed, plural. out of time, out of place, out of spite. an antidote for when people become poisons.”

Doodles
I have long thought about setting up some other ways to promote visual creations and one of those I had from the very early days an idea of doing some kind of rotating banner on the main library site with a piece of featured art. Recently, spent some time thinking about it, and came up with the idea for “doodles” kinda like what Google does with their logo some days. You can read more about what my thinking on this had been.
And, I announced this a little bit ago, and haven’t really gotten responses yet, so I thought I’d sort of jump start it with a triptych of your art from MMR16 and something I recently did on social media for a meme. You can see what this looks like on the main library page.
And, I’ve got both the logo and banner in various places around social media for profile image and profile banner.
In addition to that, you can check out the current doodles, which are a triptych of images by P Emerson Williams which were used for the alternate covers on MMR15 for the banner.
And for the logo, I added the biblically accurate angel I kitbashed from emoji for Hermetic Library’s If you’re cold, they’re cold meme posted around social media recently.
Basically, I think these would stay up in place until something new is added, and they would be rotated out, and so on. I mean, I’ll probably swap in some of my own logo doodles over time, and I expect that at the very least I’ll have a new banner doodle when the next anthology comes around; but I’ll hope that this does give the thing a push that gets it rolling!
If you want to participate, get in touch! If you know someone who might want to participate, share this with them!

Fraternity
I just updated the Fraternity section which is meant to be a “directory” of sorts at Hermetic Library that has so far only been an empty stub and I’ve added blurbs in thanks for solidarity, mutual support, and help doing special offers for supporters of the library.
Currently, for each added, I’ve got a link, tag line, and description about them, all on the one page. Take a gander and check out each of these as they may be of interest.
Down the road, I can imagine that this might turn into more of a directory, with a listing of subpages and maybe separation by categories of some kind, similar to what I do with anthology profiles, and so on. But, for now, I thought I’d at least get something there to start!
Join me in giving thanks to these friends for their solidarity and mutual support in helping to keep Hermetic Library going! And if you want to get in contact, let’s talk about opportunities for solidarity and mutual support!
I’m open to all kinds of ideas you might have, or if you know someone with a shop or service who would be interested in collaborating on something, share this with them!

#OccultLove Fest
For #OccultLoveFest-ursday, I posted across the library’s social media asking for help conjuring practitioners, authors, and creatives doing occult, esoteric, or, you know, adjacent stuff!
frauhoftmaurer said they are doing “lots of mantra meditation and listening to Weird Studies pod”. And, if anyone wants to check out that podcast they’re listening to, it is “Weird Studies: A filmmaker and a professor talk art and philosophy at the limits of the thinkable.”
jason.triefenbach mentioned that lately they are “working on dreaming better, learning more about herbalism and breathwork, practicing planetary magick, and sharing my thoughts in newsletter form at tinyletter.com/RainbowScales
Am 🐍🩸(readings open) said they “write essays and articles on Demonolatry, Philosophy, and The Arts.” Here’s their blog with those.
NFLM replied they have “been studying the Stele of Revealing in order to ascertain the keys to the Egyptian underworld. This is part of a broader effort to investigate the nature of astral pocket realms and their manifestation in the aspirant’s temple work.”
Mars Atratus said they have “been cutting out crowley head pieces and putting them on frogs” and shared a couple examples. I mean, someone’s got to do it!
