Hermetic Library Newsletter - Issue #38 (TheLAMa is a UFO cult CONFIRMED! 👽🛸)

This week I’ve got Aleister Crowley, just the punctuation; Fugazi’s Give Me The Cure, Elvira, Tim Chitty’s house, another follower milestone-ish, TheLAMa is a UFO cult CONFIRMED!, reminders, updates, quotes, reviews, and more!
And, as always, I worked on various other things on website, blog, and more … Enjoy!

Aleister Crowley, just the punctuation
Curious bit of sigilization technique from an article I was reading “What I Learned About My Writing By Seeing Only The Punctuation. I made a web tool that lets you spy your hidden literary style.”
I applied this to all of Liber Al vel Legis, for fun.
“The stops as thou wilt; the letters? change them not in style or value!"—Liber Al, II.54
And here it is applied to Liber 1, Liber 77, and Confessions, Chapter 1, for more fun.
One might also come up with interesting ways to compare various works this way, or ways to use these compact versions of things in various projects and workings. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Give me the cure
I recently finished reading Handling the Undead [Amazon, Bookshop, Publisher, Local Library] by John Ajvide Lindqvist and as I finished it I was imagining what it would be like if they made a movie out of it like the Swedish movie of Let The Right One In (not the US version or the coming remake, please!). I had the song Give Me The Cure by Fugazi come to mind as if I were watching the end credits with that song playing.
Recently on social media someone posted a little list of “songs you can perform CPR to but they get progressively more morbid: a thread” and that song was suddenly in my mind again!
Anyhow, there it is. Apparently the song of the season?
But, really, Fugazi’s 13 songs. on. repeat. Amirite? One of those albums where as every song starts, I’m, like, no, this is my favourite song. (Wish I still had my “This Is Not A Fugazi T-Shirt” t-shirt, but I did get to wear it to an actual Fugazi show once, so I’m good!)
My gods. Elvira has aged well!
It’s also funny because Elvira has actually aged well.
Tim Chitty's house
Check out this really striking and interesting gallery of images about a house in Stoke-on-Trent up for auction: “Inside Tim Chitty’s house in Normacot Road, Longton. The property is now going up for auction, with a guide price of just £20,000.”
It’s the house of an artist that worked in the area, and apparently kept the place much as it might have if it had been untouched for 100 years. Sort of, maybe? Or it just, you know, ended up like that because he was an artist? Either way …
I’ve actually got family history in Stoke-on-Trent, in those factories, so there’s this kind of feeling for me of looking into a home that I might have had relatives living in back in the day.
I mean, of course, I’ve got world headquarters already in a fixer upper 1920s bachelor craftsman bungalow. But, what a wild ideal of mise en scène one might aspire to in that one!
Anyhow, if you pick up that house in the auction, I know some people who’d love be invited to come over for tea.
Another follower milestone-ish
Hey, it’s not a major milestone, but it’s all just for funsies anyway: we just passed 3666 followers, just in time for Crowleymas, over on Instagram. Ignore the 3, that’s 666! So, here’s a liber often called 666—The Beast!
TheLAMa is a UFO cult CONFIRMED!
Apropos of nothing, and certainly not because it happened to me:
If you type “Thelema” too fast and make a typo, you end up with “Thelama” and that’s got LAM right in the middle of it! TheLAMa is a UFO cult CONFIRMED! 👽🛸
“We call her the great pretender / And when she talks / She says, ‘bama lama loo’"—Little Richard, Bama Lama Bama Loo
But, seriously, if you can look at LAM and not see porn, phallus and kteis, I don’t know what to tell you. I must conclude that you’ve not been paying attention. Also, this begs the question: what do you think of when you see an image of a little alien in a flying saucer?
