Hermetic Library Newsletter - Issue #30 (Partly Burnt Stellar Remnants on tour!)
By John Bell the Librarian • Issue #53 • View online
This week I’ve got news about my new band on tour, follower milestone watch on Twitter, new Twitter-Revue integration rolling out, a spicy Internet Hot Take™️, Anthology Project’s 10th year & Hermetic Library’s 25th in December, “Not today, Satan!” autocomplete, a preference for SubGenii doing it, admitting I will do it too, and Ceiling Crowley is watching you; along with reminders, updates, quotes, reviews, and more!
It’s still pretty consistently hot here, but hasn’t been quite so hot as in past years. Still, it’s been the hottest period of the year, and looking to get a bit hotter through the next week. Makes it hard to concentrate, but has been a great time to make iced tea! (I generally make mine a gallon at a time with brewing bulk loose black tea 1:1 with bulk lemon ginger to cool in the fridge and then mix in brown sugar to taste when served.)
As an aside, I don’t know about where you live, but I’ve been noticing the last few weeks that grocery shelves are looking pre-lockdown empty again for some things. Not entirely sure if that’s a global shipping thing or a sign of panic buying as Δ &c. spread, or both? But, I’ve definitely noticed it. And, too few people are wearing masks again, but some are, at least.
And, as always, I worked on various other things on website, blog, and more … Enjoy!

Partly Burnt Stellar Remnants
Partly Burnt Runaway Stellar Remnants” is my new band name and our tour bus is also a fast moving metallic object going in the wrong direction. Our first single is a ska cover of the StarSpongeBob TriangleHat theme song.
Follower milestone watch
Oh, hey! I noticed that I’m just ~100 followers away from 18k over on Twitter, so that means I’m on follower milestone watch there!
As you may recall, I recently passed 3k on Pinterest. Twitter will click over next, I’m pretty sure. I’m not sure what milestone after that!
Back when I first started social media accounts for the library, I would celebrate all the fun numbers as they would tick by until they got above a couple thousand. Nowadays, I basically watch for when an account passes another 1k mark.
It’s just a bit of fun to watch for and celebrate these milestones, so I watch for them and post about them when they happen.
Twitter integration
Also over on Twitter, they’ve started to roll out a new integration with Revue. Currently if you’re looking at my profile on web or iOS you may start to see a button that goes to this newsletter!
That’s the new integration between Twitter and Revue for people that have both set up, and enable it.
I could also link to a sample newsletter, which I might start doing also, but, for some reason, they don’t have a way to automatically set the most recent free newsletter as the sample, so I’d have to go in an change it every week. I might start doing that, but not into it right now. I’ve definitely enabled the generic link though!
Internet Hot Take™️
Internet Hot Take™️: Thelema at its worst is Plymouth Brethren for Assholes, at its best Catholicism for Sex Addicts.
Prove me wrong.
But, seriously. Check out any of the complaints Crowley had about Plymouth Brethren and I pretty much guarantee that’s a complaint that has been leveled at some time about Thelema, maybe even by me.
As to the other thing, well, it’s not all bad. I mean, let’s just say Gerald Gardner wasn’t the only one to come up with a religion that permitted and included his proclivities.
Anthology's 10th year! Library's 25th year!
Wait. Hold up. I just realized The Hermetic Library Anthology Album - Magick, Music and Ritual 1 released on December 3, 2011. That means December of this year will be the 10th anniversary of the Anthology Project!
By the by, now that I am thinking about it, I guess that this year will be also the 25th for Hermetic Library as a whole!? Heck, yeah!
🏴‍☠️ Send gifts of yer silver o’ this Arrrrrr-niversary!
Not today, Satan!
Type “Not today, Satan” and let predictive text finish the sentence:
Not today, Satan! And, the boys have discovered that is the best time for me and my paperback to get to you from my food but I’m keeping it really hard for the Reading Room
Seems legit.
I liked it better when the SubGenii did it
I mean, all the gobsmakingly whacked religious marketing crazy and the constant promise of a moving X Day goal post has been done already and better!
“ARISE, MUTANTS! X-Day will be VERY different this year! 1) It won’t just be a Drill this time"— 24X-DAY
I will do it
I will do it.
Though each will complain I’m too much the other two.
