Hermetic Library Newsletter - Issue #21 (a fruit in the thorns)
By John Bell the Librarian • Issue #27 • View online
This week I worked a lot of stuff behind the scenes, but I did add the entire contents of The International, Volume XII Issue 3, March 1918; the one where the Gnostic Mass first appeared in print. Previously only a couple items appeared on the site from this issue, but there’s actually a lot in this one of especial interest. You know, Crowley’s participation in The International between Equinox Vols. I and III, and the number of items that appear in those pages related to Thelema, OTO, and A∴A∴ is why I’ve been known to call it “Equinox Vol II”, totally unofficially, of course.
Consider participating on Magick, Music and Ritual 16, the next anthology album; and/or, sending in something for the next Zine. Moreover, do let others who would be interested know about them.
I’ve also got news about two ongoing giveaways, and a preview of an upcoming special offer. Also, there’s mail call!
Then there’s the usual spicy slaw of quotes, book reviews, updates, and so on to check out.
And, as always, I worked on various other things on website, blog, and more … Enjoy!

Abramelin by Children of Osiris
Hermetic Library (also Odd Order!) Anthology Artist Children of Osiris and I are collaborating on a giveaway of their album Abramelin for all Patrons on Patreon and Subscribers over on Bandcamp! I’ve got 50 gratis download codes available, and will give them out first-come, but there’s a lot to go around.
If you want to check that out Children of Osiris, just click through to the full album on their Bandcamp, and consider checking out all their other work while you’re there.
And, if you’re not already, consider jumping in, even just $1/mo in the tip jar, either on Patreon or Bandcamp. Every bit helps, and you get all kinds of awesome perks!
Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita
I just announced this morning, currently for Postal perk Patrons only, a first-come giveaway for 5 physical copies of Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita. If after a week, there’s still some left, I’ll open this to all Patrons. So, if you’re not a Patron, consider this and all the rest of what you’re missing!
Over on Instagram, I did a little unboxing sequence when these arrived, and I talked about this in a recent newsletter. So you can read more about that weird twist about a weird book that makes for a good story if you want some details, but suffice to say the Librarian’s mom discovered this book whilst looking up stuff about library cats, then ordered a stack of them for me to do a giveaway for those providing ongoing support for the my work and the library!
Preview of Century Guild Special Offer collab
In preparation for an upcoming exclusive special offer over on Patreon that we’re collaborating on, Century Guild send a set of period poster reproductions from their Patronage Prints series.
Meanwhile, check Century Guild out, for all kinds of things of interest, not the least of which is their current crowdfunding effort for a new book on the film Caligula! “It was the biggest-budget independent film in cinema history. The result was a debacle of equally epic proportions– and the true story is even stranger than the film itself. Help us publish a gorgeous, limited edition coffee-table book documenting the most notorious film in history, featuring never-before-seen behind-the-scenes photos.”
And, more details on that special offer coming soon!
