Hermetic Library Newsletter - Issue #15 (The Preliminary Invocation of the Baby Yoda)
By John Bell the Librarian • Issue #15 • View online
Hey there, how’s things?
Another week has gone by with lawn chairs and fires, astronomical Beltane, new merch for Patrons, some ideas for new modern ritual, a call for more stuff for a possible Zine release on Aphelion, thoughts about Thoreau, flying rolls, boundary stones, updates, quotes, reviews, and more!
By the by, it happens to be Bandcamp Friday again today, if you’re reading this on the today that I’m sending it. So, until midnight Pacific, all revenue from sales goes to creators. Certainly, I self-servingly suggest, check out Hermetic Library and Odd Order and all the artists that have participated over the years. But, also consider the work of others I support or follow personally.
And, as always, I worked on various other things on website, blog, and more … Enjoy!

So, how are things going?
So, how are things going?
Astronomical Beltane
Hope you had a good Astronomical Beltane on May 5th, which occurred in the Northern Hemisphere at ☉ in 15° ︎ (Sun at 15° Taurus), 6:36 UTC in 2021. But, of course, since the last newsletter, there was also May the 4th Be With You, if you celebrate that.
At the beginning of May, I added a new Hermetic Library logo t-shirt and an Anti-fascist Nuclear Disarmament Peace Algiz Lilith Foot Sigil neck gaiter for Patrons. This is part of my ongoing experiment with Patreon Merch this year, so, you know, consider becoming a Patron? Every little bit helps keep the site online and enables me to keep working on the everything!
New Modern Ritual
The Preliminary Invocation of the Baby Yoda, or the Bone-broth Ritual
Greater Banishing Ritual of Social Media Timeline Algorithms
Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Incessant Lawnmower Engine Sounds
Lesser Cancelling Ritual of Consequence Culture
A Zine for Aphelion?
Will you send me something for a new issue of the Zine I hope to release for Aphelion in July? Or, if you know someone else who might be interested, let them know too. I need more stuff to make it happen!
Thoughts about Thoreau
Recently I posted this particular Thoreau quote to the blog. They key here that most forget, including btw Thoreau himself, who was kind of an ass, is “who fulfilled all the duties of neighbors and fellow men” which has increasingly included the need for that mutual support on a global scale, as we have seen amply demonstrated again.
This is a rebuke to Thoreau himself and his behaviour, and also the Libertarian idea, that one can accrue the benefit of the all the duties of neighbors and fellow men whilst rejecting the obligation of fulfilling them in turn for others.
By the by, I ended up disliking that book, which I had wrongly assumed I would like. I posted my little review of it way back in 2017, which you can also gander at on the blog.
