“[Enhance is] a cyberpunk game you play by yelling at your computer like you’re in a movie” - Nicole He

“[Hearing Voices is] a cybernewsletter which continues to exist when you yell at your friends to subscribe” - Matt Hartman

A quick one this week in voice:

  • try Enhance – This is a fun one by @nicolehe. As desscribed by Kottke: “you speak commands to zoom & enhance images to look for secret codes, just like [in CSI]. I bet if you try this in your open plan office, your coworkers will look at you like you’re nuts for a sec but will soon gather around, shouting their own commands at the computer.”
  • read Hype kills value, and other hard lessons from veteran voice app developers - regarding becoming a part of a user’s daily routine, Google VP Scott Huffman says “Google Assistant commands like ‘Create a reminder’ or 'Play music’ are 40 times more likely to be action-oriented than a Google search query.” I’m not sure what “action-oriented in this context means, but interesting to see a bit of data supporting the notion that getting into daily routines equates to better engagement.
  • skim The 50 states of Alexa - what’s getting built in voice interfaces, by US state.
  • check out The Alexa Conference. Unclear exactly why it’s in Chattanooga, TN, but ok.
Have a great weekend,
