I hope you have a tribe, and if you don’t, you are welcome to join mine but be warned, we dance the Haka
. My tribe is a bit scattered – there are members in New Zealand, San Diego, Vegas, Philly, Orlando, and Billings, Montana. Yes, Billings! They can lift my spirits with a call, an email, a text message, or even an Instagram comment, and I hope they know how much I appreciate them. In a very hands-on way, my Gainesville tribe saw my family and me through a big surgery and 6 months of chemotherapy this year. I’ll be forever grateful and humbled. I’m not even mad that so many of the Edible Arrangements we received contained honeydew
. I gave the honeydew to Charlotte.
I’m not always great at returning calls or responding to messages and everyone knows MK runs the social calendar, and everything else, but one of my early New Year’s resolutions is to really live my friend Dallas’ great phrase “More Social, Less Media
.” In a recent High Five, I talked about lowering one’s “dose” of online stimulation. I hope some of you tried it. I still have a lot of work to do but I feel like I am making incremental improvements. The more I lower my dose, the more time I’m able to spend in the company of my tribe doing the things I love to do and laughing my face off. You inspire me. If I’ve learned anything this year it’s that friends and family – your tribe – is everything.
