It’s been a brutal couple of weeks in the games industry. If you needed a reminder about how unstable and risky it can be to make games for a living, you certainly got it when you saw story after story of large studios shutting down and putting people out of work. First, it was Carbine Studios closing up shop and letting almost 50 people go. Then, it was Capcom Vancouver, developers of the Dead Rising series, announcing that they were closing and eliminating 158 jobs. And finally (?), it was Telltale Games. The news about this closure seemed particularly brutal, as it was revealed that almost 250 people were suddenly out of a job, and without any severance pay to speak of. That would be a daunting experience just about anywhere, but especially difficult in an area as expensive to live in as the Bay Area. To all of those affected by these recent closures - best of luck in your job search, hopefully you all find something new quickly!
