The Miracles with Cultural Awareness
By Filip Skricek • Issue #2 • View online
Good morning,
as I mentioned in my last newsletter, I will publish new issues every Tuesday and Friday morning. I believe if I will make a regular schedule I will stick to the idea way longer (hopefully for the whole life). 9am will be great time. Ideal reading for morning coffee.
The other day I was attending workshop with other students outside my usual schedule. They actually care about our future employability and topic was - The Online Applications for Graduate Jobs. The main motive wasn’t particularly exciting but at the end of the day I was taking out from the class something completely different.
I was sitting next to a girl from India, another guy from England, another girl from Italy, another guy from Africa and I can continue until I reach twenty people. Where is the point?
You are not selling enough your deep cultural awareness. Lecturer said. We agreed. We collaborate with people from completely different cultures on daily basis, within various projects or group presentations. The whole university is at least half created from students all around the world. It’s pretty exciting.
What wikipedia says about the phenomenon?
Intercultural competence is a range of cognitive, affective, and behavioural skills that lead to effective and appropriate communication with people of other cultures . Effective intercultural communication relates to behaviors that culminate with the accomplishment of the desired goals of the interaction and all parties involved in the situation.
I like to keep myself busy and I have joined a beginner Japanese class every Thursday evening. I realised how cultures are completely different for second time, again. Native Japanese speaker, our professor from university showing how to lead the class with ease, reminiscent completely different universe and I suddenly realising how weird feeling is learning other language from your other non-native language, exploring completely new culture with other people all around the world around me.
God bless European Union and all international universities. I will give you task until the Friday newsletter. Apply for Erasmus+ (or any other exchange program), at least. You would waste your cultural awareness, otherwise.
