Original Comic Art Tips
Welcome to #202 of Original Comic Art Tips! Sorry, this issue is 24h late cause I’m moving and writing this while sitting on the floor of my new house (using my cell phone for connecting). Yesterday, after carrying things for three days, I suddenly remembered I still had to write this newsletter..!
Original Comic Art Auction Results:
eBay: the cover to The Shadow #5 by Frank Robbins was sold for almost $10k, an illustration by Al Hirshfeld for $4,8k, a sketch by Trey Parker of South Park was sold for $2,5k (I can’t say if it’s original or not).
An Elektra sketch cover by Miller/Sienkiewicz went for $2,7k, a 1985 Leonardo sketch by Kevin Eastman for $1,5k.
The Robin page by John Byrne was a very good catch for $400.
Heritage Weekly: the Duncan Eagleson Sandman page went for $3,1k, the Starjammers splash by Cockrum for $2,9k, the 1973 Doonesbury daily for $2,6k, a 1981 Flash page by Infantino for a high $2,6k.
Last week I told you that Faust original art by Tim Vigil is growing, that page ended for an amazing $2,6k.
Akira animation drawings are as high in price as any original linked to the movie, this one went for $2,1k.
For the second week in a row a Rusty Riley strip was sold for a very high price, this time for $1,8k. Never read the strip, they’re probably from a top storyline. The same can be said for this 1938 Alley Oop daily, the main characters are there, including a dinosaur, but $1,4k is very high.
Color guides are growing fast, they were sold for $20 just a couple years ago, now there’s a growing market for top pieces. The Jim Lee Midas’ touch probably helped the Fantastic Four cover color guide (great job by Joe Chiodo) almost reach $1,5k, this cool Daredevil page by Miller (Glynis Oliver) went for $700 (there are several from the same issue in the next weekly auction)
Catawiki: a nice fantasy illustration by Esteban Maroto went for €1k, one by Dany for €750, a Franka page by Henk Kuijpers for €750, the Tex book cover by Civitelli for the same price, the page by Sergio Toppi for €600, same as the Druuna coloring by Serpieri.
