Remember that time Equifax collected all your sensitive personal data without asking, stored it without asking, made a profit off of it without asking, and then left it vulnerable to hackers in 2017? Well, the slap in the wrist we all knew was coming is finally here—the much-maligned credit bureau will now have to establish a $575 million restitution fund to compensate people affected by the breach, which is estimated to be upwards of 143 million consumers. Oh, in case you’re wondering: That works out to be about $4 per person.
