Why we use email to develop the kernel
The Linux Kernel is one of the biggest and fastest moving projects in the world, and in 2015 (the year before the talk) they had 4000 developers and 450 different companies, and everyone is distributed across the globe, with different languages, different timezones, different internet connectivity, etc.
Imagine if you would be the head of this enormous project within your company, what tool would you use?
Turns out the best tool for the job is git + email, that’s it. The talk goes in depth about why is this the case and what are the problems that they have faced that cannot be solved with any other tool.
Now, next time you have a problem managing people and the speed of development, think about your toolsets and your procedures and learn from bigger projects like this on how to be more efficient.
