How many emails do you write every day? I bet quite a few. I personally write and receive plenty of emails, and I’m always surprised at how different people are in writing their emails. Some emails I receive are very well written, while others are written very quickly and sloppy, and maybe it’s not even clear the point they are trying to make.
I think writing is a skill that must always be improved, and especially writing an email. This article shows that also Steve Jobs knew this, and shows an example of an email and why it is well written. I fully agree on this article and the reasoning behind it.
Also, if you would like to improve your emailing skill, try to work on an open source project, and follow their mailing list. Chances are all the emails written there are extremely well written and clear. The reason for this is because the developers of the project do not know each other, and the only way to communicate and describe a problem or a solution is via email, and this forces you to write a well-written email.
