Time is in short supply. The Economy is not doing great across the globe, the last thing people want at this time is more work to do. But “with chaos comes opportunity”. There is a way to be a winner vs a looser in this scenario.
To get what you want, especially in business and as a startup,
JUST ASK FOR IT!
Instead of saying “let’s connect” or “can I pick your brain?” do this:
1. Email the exact questions you have(Make a list, spend the bloody time, be respectful of others who may want to help, but wont because you are inconsiderate or do not plan ahead)
2. Put your ask at the end so the person knows what you want
3. Follow up in 1 week
4. Do not schedule a 1hr call smaller bite sized interactions, the other person may not have or want to talk to you for 30 mins.
5. Be outstanding in your ask vs doing some thing stupid to stand out. There is a very large difference between the two.
Be prepared for many nos. But be grateful of the yeses, if you are scripted, curated and fast, you can work through a bigger list than others. The worst that can happen is a NO, the best that can happen is a Yes who brings on other people who will also stay yes.
