From Exchange Invest 2032 Friday April 23rd:
Scary statistic from the World Bank which estimates that 50% of Lebanon’s population has slipped below the poverty line. The Lebanese Pound has lost 90% of its value since October 2019 and the exchange rate is more like 1500 Pounds to a USD dollar where the official rate is 1507.5.
The most salutary element to this tale is how just 60 years ago Lebanon was known as “the Switzerland of the Middle East.”
As I mentioned when visiting Lebanon a couple of years back, the most incredible facet to the country was how the Uber drivers were all ethnic Lebanese - a sign I felt displayed an ongoing crisis in the nation. It is so sad to see an amazing country in this ghastly economic predicament.

Innovating Financial Law Through Blockchain
Max Ganado is a semi mythical figure in Maltese law: his widespread description as a ‘visionary’ hardly does him justice! Beginning as a maritime lawyer, Max hugely developed the Financial Services practices at GanadoAdvocates, the blue riband law firm in the island state. Max has been heavily involved in the drafting of new legislation required for the development of Malta as a financial centre, including the revision of the law relating to trusts and the law on legal persons and foundations, as well as on netting, securitisation, DLT and aviation. He was the Managing Partner of Ganado Advocates for 6 years prior to retiring in December 2020 and becoming a Consultant to the firm.
As Chamber FinTech Legal noted in 2020, “He has a curious and inquisitive mind and is fascinated about new legal challenges. He’s quick on understanding the key issues and can go into action quickly as a result,” An early adopter of the technology, Max remains a key thinker around the law for Distributed Ledger Technology.

PLY: $520,000 worth of BTC sold for $487,000, a useful primer for those who naively think the government is a sound manager of assets and money…. AKA the core lesson of giving somebody a government pension: faster and with less surgical intrusion but essentially a lobotomy for common sense, let alone taxpayer value for money.
