Issue 2011 of Exchange Invest coincides with the year when the Arab spring was in full throated roar albeit nobody seems to remember that it began a year earlier with a simple mercantile cri de coeur. Tunisian street vendor Tarek el-Tayeb Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire on 17 December 2010, in response to the confiscation of his wares and the harassment and humiliation inflicted on him by a municipal official and her aides.

From EI 2009 (Thursday):
As we witness Another day another stalemated Israeli general election the Times of Israel notes Investors Yawn At Election Stalemate As Focus Stays On Pandemic, Global Markets.
The two logical conclusions to be drawn from the apparent stalemate as we approach the conclusion of vote counting from the fourth Israeli general election in 2 years are:
  1. A fifth general election looks highly likely in the near future;
  2. Exit pollsters need to revise their math as once again they inferred a better showing for Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party than eventuated once the ballot boxes were opened.
Nevertheless, it’s hard to bet against Bibi forming another government, at least until a general election in the near future once again.

Brexit: Done
City A.M.
“The politicians, the regulators and the market are now broadly aligned about the need to get on with constructing a more, nimble, competitive, dynamic regulatory future for the City.”
-Lord Hill
PLY: Brexit may be done, the worry is the EU seems to be coming undone. However UK pragmatism is giving way to the years where banks held Eurostar gold card holding Ivy league grads up as exemplars of what was going on in the real world.
In other news, - you can’t make this up - Eurostar, owned by the French government railway board SNCF is pressuring the UK to bail the Channel Tunnel operator out while France is trying to stop exports of vaccines the UK has legally ordered.
