Every day at Essex Police our dedicated Force Control Room and Resolution Centre take thousands of calls. On average our call handlers received over 1,000 calls to the 999 number and 700 calls to the 101 number every day in June from the public, of which around only 20% were considered to be an emergency (based on June 2022 data).
We are unfortunately seeing an increase in people ringing 999 for non-emergency matters.
We are asking people to consider the appropriateness of their use of the 999 service to ensure we can continue to get an emergency response to those in need. Read more
