In the past we have seen fake emails or text messages appearing to be from HMRC claiming you are due a tax refund, owe tax or urging you to provide personal and financial details.
Criminals may also offer their services to help you with your application whilst charging you a fee to complete the process.
It’s okay to say no to unsolicited offers of help or requests for your details.

Obituaries
Frank Ruggles
The Chief Constable regrets to inform you of the sad death of our former colleague Frank Ruggles who retired as a Sergeant in 1999 and served at Braintree and in the Support Unit at Chelmsford and Stanway Traffic. He passed away on the 19 February 2022 aged 79 years.

This week we remember
Edward Willsmore
Edward Willsmore served with Essex County Constabulary from 12 February 1847 and was a mariner prior to joining the force. He was stationed at Burnham where we protected the oyster fishery with two other constables and an Inspector. Edward sailed his own boat and was out in it on the River Crouch on Saturday 29 March 1851 with the sails set with the wind blowing hard. A witness saw the boat sink. Edward’s body was recovered two days later.

Frederick Walter Woods
Frederick Walter Woods served with Southend Borough Constabulary from 19 July, 1937 having previously served with the Metropolitan Police. On 2 February 1942, he left the police and joined the Royal Air Force. He went missing during air operations on 31 March 1944 when his aircraft was hit by flak and presumed to have crashed when returning from an operation to Nurnberg. All seven crew died.
