China’s revamping coal has made international headlines in the past week. The shift is not surprising to us. Since the energy supply shortage crisis last year, Beijing has continued to rephrase its energy-transition and carbon-capping strategies. The recent statement crystallized the top authority’s current design of the nation’s energy system. A growing emphasis is placed on the role of coal, again.
Industrial policies reflecting the changes have been announced in the past two months, and more will come soon. Besides the strategic shift, some other critical market updates to keep an eye on:
  • HydrogenSinopec is developing its PEM electrolysis equipment, which has completed a pilot-scale test. The electrolyzer market is nascent, heated, but already highly competitive. Several A-class players are all speeding up R&Ds in the area.
  • Renewable: although subsidy is over, regional governments show sincere interests in offshore wind development, with a combined 100GW target laid down in the recent regional 14th FYPs
  • Equipment: 2021 ranking of the wind turbine OEMs in China shows some surprising changes
Please scroll down to check out the eight updates that we considered noteworthy last week.
