Saturday Scribblings of Martin Sketchley - Issue #7

Hello all and welcome to our seventh issue of Saturday Scribblings. I hope you all had a wonderful week. This week was a little quieter than normal as some of my private students have been busy. This week, I decided to find some more teaching work and will update all in the coming weeks if my application is successful. Perhaps a video update would help those that regularly watch my YouTube uploads.
In this weekly newsletter, I will obviously be sharing some videos that are worth watching, books that you could consider purchasing for English lessons as well as more general news. Let’s get started!

Videos Worth Watching
This week, I would recommend that you consider watching Christian from Canguro English. In this video, he chats to Erik Singer about the issue of accent and identity. Many of my learners have a desire to become native-like pronunciation and accents. This is a fascinating video but I do hope that Christian produces some more content in the near future.

The next video is from a TED Talk by Ashley Whillans that looks at the achieving a greater work-life balance. This video would be a worthy contribution to any lesson about work and life, and finding a fulfilling balance between both. How would you use this video for lessons?

Books Worth Reading
This week, I decided to focus on the teaching of pronunciation with my online lessons - something that has unfortunately been pushed aside so my choice of books reflects this week’s newsletter.
Pronunciation Games by Mark Hancock
Games for Vocabulary Practice by Felicity O'Dell
Blog Posts Worth Reading
Here are some blog posts that I would recommend this week. We have a post related to course dates for the DELTA Module One course by Sandy Millin, while the other post is a lesson plan for Halloween - rather fitting as we head towards this cultural occasion next week.
