Giving you a big digital hug today 🤗

Podcast, TV Show, both, huh?!?!- The Midnight Gospel on Netflix. is a cartoon, video/audio combo of Duncan Trussell’s podcast content. I’d say its in the league of Rick and Morty but will let you decide for yourself. It brilliantly uses the medium as a Trojan Horse for mindfulness. I couldn’t help but think there’s no way mainstream TV would feature an episode on mindfulness 10 years ago. 🎙📺
The Future of Education- For >5 years I’ve thought my kids will have a PhD level education by the time they finish 12th grade. I say this without any hyperbole whatsoever, nor any sadistic or dictatorial rulings. Rather, this is based upon my understanding and projections of currently available technology. If you’re familiar with concepts like MOOCs, adaptive learning, ML, NLP, and mastery learning, they aren’t new, and they are only getting better. COVID has helped, forcing education online. Often students like a subject not based on the subject itself, but on how and who presents it to them. Thanks to the aforementioned concepts, if you want to learn physics for example, you don’t just have to take Mr. Farrar’s physics course. You can take physics from any physics teacher who has published their materials online. But wait, theres more! 🎓
LearnFromAnyone is but one of many projects that takes in information and uses it to spit out new info. From Scott Barry Kaufman, a professor who has taught at multiple Ivy League Universities, referring to LearnFromAnyone– “This AI (GPT-3) version of me is crazy accurate….” LearnFromAnyone is in alpha with 50 users, imagine what it’ll be like in 5 years, with many competitors attempting to deliver the best experience. 👩🏿‍🏫
Quote to ponder- People ask, “how will this impact education”? As Mark Twain is attributed, I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. Those who knew how to use libraries transform into using the most epic library in history, the internet. Education is already being impacted! A student I mentored was taking a free online science course from MIT. I asked, “why don’t you take it here?” He said, “why learn from the good when you can learn from the best?” He is right. It has stuck with me since. And that was 7 years ago. Wait til we have the Reddit of education- an aggregated platform of all teaching on all topics, ranked by students, not by administrators nor people whose jobs depend on getting grant money. Personalized education isn’t coming, its already here. We’re simply developing it further. Again, I say this without a hint of hyperbole. 📜
Be well,
Drew
