Happy Tuesday everyone! ๐ I hope your week is going swimmingly ๐๐พโโ๏ธ
Homemade candles- ๐ฏ in part of my quest to avoid blue light at night Iโve been using candles for a while and recently made a batch of my own. Despite watching videos that made it seem foolproof, mistakes were made. Nonetheless, I love these things. I canโt help but wonder if I enjoy them due to the Ikea Effect- a cognitive bias in which consumers place a disproportionately high value on products they partially created. I definitely gain comfort knowing I can eek more enjoyment out of objects if I make them myself. Iโll be using this hack more in the future.
Speaking of the Ikea Effect- the below graphic called the Cognitive Bias Codex can help sniff out poor thinking, both from yourself and others. For example, sometimes I notice that I use information to justify my view when in reality Iโm simply afraid. Being up front about the fear enables me to see the data in a more objective way. โ
While we are on bias- be mindful of Russell Conjugation. Itโs used to add bias to situations and youโve likely been duped by it a time or twenty. Russell Conjugation can be used to word things in ways that change how we feel about them, whether or not they are factual, and can be both extreme or subtle. ๐ฑ

Be Well, Drew PS- Twitter seems to be making me angrier and I donโt like it. Iโve recently been more active on twitter (@StegDrew) as a means of sharing my ideas. But, there are trolls, people trying to sound smart instead of be themselves, scoring woke points, and sometimes people say things that are plain wrong. Iโm worried its turning me into a grumpy old man. Any suggestions for how to prevent this? Please help, Iโm being dead serious. I intend to follow a wide range of people to get a more balanced perspective and wish there was a button I could press to do that.
