The latest things I've dug into including books, quotes, songs, gadgets and other things I've found interesting.

Happy Tuesday everyone! ๐Ÿ™Œ I hope your week is going swimmingly ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ

Homemade candles- ๐Ÿ•ฏ in part of my quest to avoid blue light at night Iโ€™ve been using candles for a while and recently made a batch of my own. Despite watching videos that made it seem foolproof, mistakes were made. Nonetheless, I love these things. I canโ€™t help but wonder if I enjoy them due to the Ikea Effect- a cognitive bias in which consumers place a disproportionately high value on products they partially created. I definitely gain comfort knowing I can eek more enjoyment out of objects if I make them myself. Iโ€™ll be using this hack more in the future.
Speaking of the Ikea Effect- the below graphic called the Cognitive Bias Codex can help sniff out poor thinking, both from yourself and others. For example, sometimes I notice that I use information to justify my view when in reality Iโ€™m simply afraid. Being up front about the fear enables me to see the data in a more objective way. โ‘
While we are on bias- be mindful of Russell Conjugation. Itโ€™s used to add bias to situations and youโ€™ve likely been duped by it a time or twenty. Russell Conjugation can be used to word things in ways that change how we feel about them, whether or not they are factual, and can be both extreme or subtle. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Be Well,

PS- Twitter seems to be making me angrier and I donโ€™t like it. Iโ€™ve recently been more active on twitter (@StegDrew) as a means of sharing my ideas. But, there are trolls, people trying to sound smart instead of be themselves, scoring woke points, and sometimes people say things that are plain wrong. Iโ€™m worried its turning me into a grumpy old man. Any suggestions for how to prevent this? Please help, Iโ€™m being dead serious. I intend to follow a wide range of people to get a more balanced perspective and wish there was a button I could press to do that.
