Advice to graduates?
Dear Impossible Family,šŸŽ“
Itā€™s graduation season and I am pleasedĀ toĀ announce that Iā€™ll be speaking toĀ a thousand bright, young graduates. Giving a commencement address is a fraught proposition: too vague/clichĆ©d (ā€œfollow your passionā€) and your audience will dismiss everything you say as trite. TooĀ specific,Ā and theĀ audience will tune you out.Ā
My address is tentatively called ā€˜Think Like Galileoā€™Ā featuringĀ the Maestroā€™s lessons for remaining relevant for half aĀ millennium. Iā€™ll be covering the power of having plansĀ and goals while avoiding expectations which lead to ā€˜living in the futureā€™ and conditional happiness. Iā€™ll, of course, discuss setbacks and fallbacks and how Galileo dealt with them in his storied life and career. Wish my luck with this experience!
Luckily, I have kept off the few pounds I have lost since New Years and so I canĀ confidentlyĀ say I willĀ comfortably fit into the billowing robe and silly hat Iā€™ll be forced to wearĀ šŸ˜€.
Iā€™ll be sure toĀ share my experience with you when I get back.Ā
But in the meantime, help me out:Ā what was the best (or worst) commencement advice you ever received?Ā
Speaking of Galileo, have you gotten your copy of The Dialogue?Ā You can get itĀ Direct from me (discount!), or onĀ Audible,Ā (If you donā€™t have an account clickĀ hereĀ for a discounted free trial:. You can also get it atĀ Google Play,Ā Ā Scribd,Ā Audiobooks.comĀ or other platforms!Ā Youā€™ll find more information, including all the figures from the audiobookĀ here.
Have a magical week!
