I see this as another confirmation that Satan, through his minions, is doing everything he can to prevent the return of the Jews to the Temple Mount. It can be easy to assume that Satan wants sacrifices to be reinstated as an affront to God, but we know that the opposite is true. The Antichrist will halt the sacrifice and the grain offering. Isaiah tells us that when Israel restores the sacrifices they will be acceptable on His altar.
Even those I will bring to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar; For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples. – Isaiah 56:7 NASB (emphasis mine)
This can be hard to process, but I think of it as only another temporary covering and the beginning of the process of God calling His people back to Himself, and clearly Satan is opposed to that. Therefore, Satan is against these attempts to restore the sacrificial service, and we are told that he will put a stop to the sacrifices at some point after they are restored. It may even be almost immediately after they are restarted, because we can’t know how long the sacrifices will be restored before they are halted.
And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate. – Daniel 9:27 NASB (emphasis mine)
That’s enough speculation, though, I suppose. I just wanted to comment on why these present events might be significant.
