With regards to the rapture, I’d like to point out that the fundamental difference between the pre-tribulation rapture view and the pre-wrath rapture view is simply the question of whether it is the first seal that marks the beginning of God’s wrath or rather it is actually the sixth seal that indicates God’s wrath is about the be poured out on mankind, beginning with the first trumpet. My own view expressed in Witnessing the End is that I hold a post-midtribulational rapture position.
Never heard of it? No, I expect not, because it’s my own expression of the idea that I think Scripture warns us explicitly not to expect the tribulation until after the Apostasy comes and the man of lawlessness is revealed at the mid-point of Daniel’s seventieth week (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4), but also not until after the Sixth Seal, as taught by Jesus in Matthew 24 when compared to Revelation chapter 6. It should therefore be understood that the rapture will come at some point in the last half of the seven years, after the Antichrist has already begun to set up his kingdom.
I would say that it is impossible to dogmatically affirm anything else regarding the precise timing of the Lord’s return, and therefore this position retains a “no man knows the day or the hour” perspective, despite feeling confident that we have now entered the final seven years of Daniel’s second period of seventy sevens when we will see the completion of his prophecy to: seal up vision and prophecy, bring in everlasting righteousness, and anoint the most holy. This understanding that there were always meant to be two periods of seventy sevens (just like two appearances of the Messiah) is all explained thoroughly in chapter 5 of my book, by the way.
