Heyyyy everybodyyyyy!
So I’m back from CaboPress (review coming soon on my personal site), which is the “business vacation” (borrowing the term from Brian Casel of Productize and ProductKit and AudienceOps) I attended last week in, well, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
This was my second year going to CaboPress, and it’s the 4th “mastermind” level conference I’ve either been to or put on where there were under 30 attendees, there were lots of pools and drinks, and I came away absolutely STOKED to work on my business.
That was the stated goal, and I’d say it was accomplished.
It also made me realize that I’ve been trying to do too much alone, and that I need to be in community with other entrepreneurs.
Over the course of the week I had incredible conversations and felt my vision for where my business goes coming together into a more cohesive view.
On the flight back, I booked an Exit Row seat so I had room for my computer, put on my noise cancelling headphones (you should’ve seen the flight attendant waving at me to get my attention when drinks came around), and took an hour and a half to write out everything I realized during the week. Now I’m creating a 12-month vision for the company.
And this was all thanks to taking a step back for a week (afternoons were mostly in the pool hanging out with other attendees). I came back on FIRE and ready to rock.
So let me ask you, when is the last time you were in community with other entrepreneurs for a few days? And even better, when was the last time you did this outside of a multi-track conference?
I have a few thoughts for you on how to do this:
1) Join a mastermind (I met Ken the owner of MastermindJam last week and am going to join myself);
2) Put together your own mini conference! People asked me how I did CredoCamp the first two years (didn’t happen this year), and literally I booked a house and invited a bunch of guys to come with me. It was awesome.
We NEED to be in community with others. I am committing to trying to do one of these types of events (attend or put my own on) at minimum once a year and ideally twice a year.
Will you join me?
Reply and let me know if you’ve done this before and what it did for you.
