Des Femmes newsletter
Hello and welcome to the Des Femmes newsletter! 👋

Our first print magazine will be available to purchase at Barnes & Nobles and Books-A-Million stores nationally starting in December. We are currently accepting preorders for the magazine launch here. We are going to accept Bitcoin as payment for online magazine orders and…figured now would be a perfect time to provide some tips if you want to do the same!
Thank you Patricia for the informative write-up about BTCPay using LunaNode, below. Patricia is a designer focused on bitcoin. She is passionate about education, freedom, and privacy. Her current projects are centered around BTCPay Server, Bitcoin Design, and an evolving merchant section. Keep scrolling for some community spotlights and current events!
Are you inspired to start accepting bitcoin but don’t know where to get started? Does it sound risky? Well, women who take risks are powerful so let’s get you going!
Bitcoin offers those with an audacious spirit the ability to be their own bank and interact with an asset that promotes financial freedom. The self-governing woman can experience economic empowerment by engaging in peer-to-peer transactions across the Bitcoin network. You now have the option of saying “no” to discriminatory central banks and third parties, and saying “yes” to Bitcoin.
To do this, you will first need access to a payment processor that supports bitcoin. One of the more reputable softwares, BTCPay Server, acts as both a free and permissionless payment processor. This means that you can accept payments without relying on third parties (e.g. Paypal, Venmo, etc.) to settle your funds. This might sound daunting, but self-hosting open source cryptocurrencies is easier than you might imagine. If you follow this guide, you will only need one thing: a hosting account with LunaNode.
Let’s take a look at the LunaNode tutorial from btcpayserver.org. This article is intended to help newbies hit the ground running in an easy and frictionless way.
Follow these simple steps to kick off funding your next business or initiative:
1. Create the account and add credits
Register and verify an account with LunaNode and then add credits. Having trouble adding credits to your account? Go here. Make sure to wait for the invoice confirmation.
2. Create the API Key
Verified? Credits added? Great. Go to the API section and create a new API key. Leave the page open and move to step 3.
3. Web-Wizard Deployment
  1. Go to launchbtcpay.lunanode.com (opens in new tab)
  2. Paste the API Key and API ID created in step 2 and continue.
  3. Use your own domain or automatically-generated one by LunaNode.
  4. Customize the web-wizard settings according to your needs.
  5. Click Launch VM. Wait 6-7 minutes for Virtual Machine deployment.
Note: the VM subscription Lunanode recommends in the launch web wizard (m.2). This is perfectly acceptable and a great use case for the majority of people.
From here, your Bitcoin node will begin to sync with the blockchain. Depending on the LunaNode plan you selected, the process could take up to 1-7 days. If you would like to speed up the process, choose a more powerful CPU when signing up for LunaNode. Once your node is synced, the sync pop-up window will disappear.
You are now ready to start generating invoices!

4. Additional customization
If you are a more advanced user with knowledge of SSH, there are lots of configurable options. For more information, visit the available environment variable list.
Every situation is unique and your instance may require a little extra attention. Please do not be afraid to ask for help! The general spirit of the open-source world is one of learning and sharing. One of the best aspects of the BTCPay Server community and contributors is their generosity and patience. Jump in the chat if you need support, want to learn more, or have an interest in getting more involved. Des Femme Fall 2021 theme is “The Risk”; so what are you waiting for? Get started with BTCPay Server today!
Common Questions:
How much does running BTCPay Server cost?
BTCPay is free of charge and open to all. Hosting is essential to running the software. This will likely cost around $10/month. Both self-hosted local servers and trusted cloud providers work. Most users will choose something like a LunaNode. A hardware wallet is encouraged but not necessary for novice users.
What is the absolute minimum to get started with BTCPay?
We suggest running Bitcoin and Lightning Network nodes which typically require the following:
