Dear Mayor Madden - Issue #10

Dear Mayor Madden
Dear Mayor Madden
Hey friends, it’s been a little while. Hope you’re staying safe and sane out there. I wanted to quickly re-share this appeal for assistance since some of us on this list are not entirely subsumed by 2022 chaos and may also have a few bucks to pay forward.
<3 Dan Phiffer

Dear Friend, Neighbor, Comrade, & Collaborator:
I’m writing to you today because two of our most cherished Black organizers in the Capital Region are struggling with their financial obligations. I know there have been a ton of anonymous asks rolling around, but if this one wasn’t CRITICAL, I wouldn’t be writing today. Each of these recipients (due to their incredibly public lives) have requested that I keep their budget shortfall to myself. I want to honor the commitment I made to their privacy, so please keep this sensitive information private.

About the recipients:
ORGANIZER #1 is a Black, Queer & Non-Binary young person who was a critical member of the Kiani for Troy campaign. Their absolute commitment to seeing a Left Turn in Troy and to having non-white representation in City Hall demanded they sacrifice opportunities that could have covered their obligations. This comrade needs help with two months of rent and a bit of debt relief. $1700 gets them by, $2500+ sets them up for interest-free success until their paychecks start coming in.
ORGANIZER #2 is Black man and father of two. As a person directly impacted by mass incarceration, he has been crucial to the successes the Clean Slate legislation has seen recently. He uses his experience as a victim of state violence through the prison industrial complex to ignite action from communities across the state. His skills will be integral to growing the local Working Families Party into the political powerhouse it can be. He needs support with one month of rent and one month of car payments for a total of $1500.
This campaign needs a total of $3200 to cover the immediate monies owed to landlords in Troy and Albany. I know we can do this together! Please share this fundraiser with anyone you think might be able to support.
