📘 Books Recommendation
There’s one book I wanted to recommend anyone interested in two topics: artificial intelligence and the differences in the US and China tech scenes.
Kai-Fu Lee was leading the Google efforts in China and knows the situation from within. According to him DeepMind’s success in learning go (an old Chinese chess-like game) was a ‘sputnik’ moment for China that is driving their efforts in AI.
Another interesting insight from the book is that the Chinese tech startups aren’t mission-focused — they are strictly market-focused and can do anything that would allow them to make money. The move fast and aren’t afraid to enter what we consider offline business: that’s why Didi (Chinese Uber) is buying gas stations and repair shops to build an impenetrable wall of competitive advantage that can’t be matched by just software.
