Today our founder, Benjamin Grant, will be speaking at the annual Mapbox SatSummit in Washington, D.C. Founded as the capital of the United States in 1790, Washington, D.C. was originally shaped as a square measuring 10 miles (16 km) on each side. However, since some land was returned to the state of Virginia in 1846, the federal district today measures 68.34 square miles (177 sq. km) and is home to nearly 700,000 people.
