Crowds of people gather at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C. Constructed between 1939 and 1943, the memorial honors Thomas Jefferson, a Founding Father and third president of the United States. Its neoclassical, Pantheon-like structure is composed of circular marble steps, a portico, a circular colonnade of Ionic order columns, and a shallow dome. In 2018, the Jefferson Memorial had approximately 3.2 million visitors.
