Exactly 50 years ago today — on December 21, 1968 — NASA launched the Apollo 8 spacecraft, which sent the first humans out of low Earth orbit and around the moon. The three-astronaut crew took 68 hours (nearly three days) to reach the Moon, and on Christmas Eve, Astronaut Bill Anders pointed his customized Hasselbad 500 EL camera out the window and captured this amazing photograph, called “Earthrise”. This photograph speaks to our mission here at Daily Overview; to give everyone a chance to appreciate our home in its entirety and reflect on its beauty and fragility all at once. Thank you for joining us on this journey!
