This Overview shows devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian in the town of Marsh Harbour on Great Abaco Island, Bahamas. The storm made landfall here on Sunday 9/1, damaging or destroying nearly every structure in its path and submerging almost half the runway at Leonard M. Thompson International Airport. When it hit Marsh Harbour, Dorian was at Category 5 intensity with sustained winds of 185 mph (295 km/h), tying a 1935 record for the fastest wind speed at landfall for an Atlantic hurricane.
