Cactus Dome is a concrete structure built over a nuclear crater on Runit Island in the Marshall Islands. Debris inside the crater comes from six nearby islands, where the United States performed nuclear tests between 1946 and 1958. The dome, known locally as “The Tomb,” is 377 feet (115 m) in diameter, 18 inches (46 cm) thick, and encapsulates an estimated 95,000 cubic yards (73,000 cubic m) of radioactive debris.
