The Avenue des Champs-Élysées is a world-famous thoroughfare in Paris, France. Located in the city’s 8th arrondissement, it runs for 1.2 miles (1.9 km) between the Place de la Concorde and the Place Charles de Gaulle, where the Arc de Triomphe is located. It is known for its theatres, cafés and luxury shops, for the annual Bastille Day military parade, and as the finish of the Tour de France cycle race.
Paris, along with much of Western Europe, is currently experiencing an unprecedented heat wave. On Thursday, temperatures in Paris reached 108.6 degrees Fahrenheit (42.6 degrees Celsius), breaking a record from 1947.
