The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Oświęcim, Poland, is a series of remembrance sites that include the former German Nazi concentration camps Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau. It is devoted to the memory of the victims who died at both camps during World War II. This Overview shows Birkenau, which housed as many as 200,000 prisoners at once and was responsible for 90% of the deaths in the Auschwitz complex — approximately a million people. In 2017, the museum had 2.1 million visitors from across the world.
